THE PAPER STUDIES
Since 2017, Enrico Magnani has been developing this series of mixed media studies on paper, conceived as a laboratory for formal and chromatic research. Paper Studies stems from the need to explore variations on central themes of his own production, for which the realization of numerous large-scale versions would be impractical.
The choice of the paper medium, with its immediate usability and inherent material limitations, allows the artist to investigate with agility novel color combinations, alternative compositional solutions and technical experimentation (from painterly gestures to dripping, from controlled drippings to textural textures)
The series is divided into distinct groups by language and theme: the dynamic Color Throws, the dense Tar Pours, and the essential Archetypal Geometries. Each represents an autonomous but related chapter, functioning both as a completed work and as a potential preparatory study for larger realizations.
