I CHING COLLECTION

Selected Artworks

This collection is a series of seven artworks based on the Chinese oracle “I Ching” (known since 3000 b.C.). Starting from only eight trigrams (a set of three lines), 64 hexagrams (combinations of two trigrams) can be created; each hexagram contains an answer of the oracle. Each line can be a Yin-line (black line) or a Yang-line (red-orange line). The Yin and Yang principles alternate describing all the possible events in the universe. The artist has freely reworked, interpreting with different techniques, the meaning attributed to some of these hexagrams.

In this collection the hexagrams numbers 1 (The Creative), 2 (The Receptive), 8 (Holding together), 11 (Peace), 20 (Contemplation), 40 (Deliverance), and 44 (Coming to meet) are presented.

Technique: each work in the series is created with a different technique (sands, stones, clays, chalk, oil, acrylic) that tries to capture and transfer the meaning attributed to the hexagram. All the works are on canvas.
